What separates Vedic astrology from all other astrological traditions is the Dasha system — a precise method of timing life events based on the natal position of the Moon at birth. Does it rule benefic houses (Kendra/Trikona) or difficult ones (6th, 8th, 12th) for your Lagna? Is it conjunct with or aspected by malefics or benefics? What natural significations does it carry?
A strong Jupiter Mahadasha for a Cancer Lagna native will deliver excellent results — Jupiter rules the 6th and 9th houses, is exalted in Cancer, and its natural significations (wisdom, children, luck, spirituality) all blossom. The same Jupiter Dasha for a Capricorn Lagna native requires more careful analysis, since Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn and rules the 3rd and 12th houses.
While Dashas provide the broad theme and timing of life chapters, planetary transits fine-tune when specific events manifest. An event predicted by the Dasha will typically occur when the transit of the same planet (or its depositor) activates the relevant natal house. This dual confirmation — Dasha timing plus transit activation — is what allows Vedic astrologers to predict events within specific months or even weeks.
